I'd never touched a lump of clay before going to a - now sadly defunct - Family Learning class some years ago with my kids. I got hooked right away and what started as a hobby has gradually become my second career. I have finished my BTEC 3D Design & Ceramics course with a distinction and am now dividing my time between making, developing glazes and teaching.
I enjoy impressing and carving. I use the properties of various glazes and clay bodies for decorative effect, how one will run on top of another, how the iron-rich body comes through on the rim of a bowl...
Since the beginning of 2018 I've been exploring forms in black clay, and wood ash glazes on iron rich clay bodies.
This month I've started making vessels and small dishes using the #Kurinuki technique, starting from a solid block of clay and hollowing out the inside, adding texture to the outside, making each piece absolutely unique.
My new range of tableware is now available and has been showcased at Top Drawer London early this year.
